How to transfer your domain to Unlimited Web Hosting

Moving your domain to a new registrar gives you the freedom to consolidate your hosting services or take advantage of better pricing. You will unlock your domain at your current registrar, gather the required transfer credentials and complete the transfer process through our website.

Before you begin

  • You need access to your domain management panel at your current registrar.
  • Your domain must have been registered for at least 60 days.
  • We recommend noting down your current DNS records before starting.

Unlock your domain

Most domains have a transfer lock enabled by default. This lock prevents unauthorised transfers but must be removed before you can move your domain to a new registrar. If the lock remains active, the transfer will fail with a clientTransferProhibited error.

  1. Log in to your current registrar’s control panel.
This is where you originally registered or currently manage your domain.
  2. Navigate to the domain management section.
Look for options labelled Domain Lock, Transfer Lock or Registrar Lock.
  3. Disable the transfer lock.
Toggle the setting to unlock your domain. The change may take a few minutes to propagate.

Your domain is now unlocked. The next step depends on your domain’s top-level domain (TLD).

Prepare your transfer credentials

Different TLDs use different transfer methods. UK domains such as .co.uk use an IPS tag system, while international TLDs such as .com use authorisation codes. You need to follow the correct process for your domain type.

For .co.uk and other UK domains

UK domains transfer by changing the IPS tag rather than using an authorisation code. Contact your current registrar and request that they change the IPS tag to UNLIMITED. Once the tag change completes, the domain moves under our management. You still need to create a transfer order on our website to complete the process.

For .com, .net, .org and other international TLDs

International domains require an authorisation code, sometimes called an EPP code or transfer key. Request this code from your current registrar. The code is typically sent to the email address listed as the domain registrant. Keep this code ready for the next step.

Start the transfer on our website

With your domain unlocked and transfer credentials ready, you can initiate the transfer through our website. The process involves entering your domain name, providing any required codes and completing your registrant details.

  1. Visit the domain transfer page.
    Go to unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk/domain-names/transfer to begin.
  2. Enter your domain name.
Type your full domain name including the TLD (for example, yourdomain.co.uk) into the search field.
  3. Enter your authorisation code.
For international TLDs, paste the EPP code you received from your current registrar. UK domains do not require a code if the IPS tag has already been changed.

  1. Complete your domain configuration.
Fill in your registrant details including your name, address and contact information. This information becomes part of the domain’s WHOIS record.

  1. Proceed to checkout.
Review your order and complete the payment to submit your transfer request.

Your transfer request has been submitted. Domain transfers typically complete within 24 to 48 hours, though some registrars may take up to five days to release the domain.
