How to transfer your domain to Unlimited Web Hosting

Moving your domain to us means unlocking it at your current registrar, collecting the transfer details and placing an order on our website. The steps below transfer your domain to Unlimited Web Hosting, whether it is a UK domain or an international one.

How do I unlock my domain?

A transfer lock stops unauthorised transfers. Your current registrar has to give you a way to remove it, and you need to do that before you start, because a locked domain cannot be moved. The lock appears as the clientTransferProhibited status.

1. Log in to your current registrar’s control panel. This is where you registered the domain or where you manage it now.
2. Find the domain management section. Look for options labelled Domain Lock, Transfer Lock or Registrar Lock.
3. Turn the lock off. Switch the setting so the domain is unlocked.

Your domain is now unlocked. What you need next depends on its extension.

What do I need for my domain’s extension?

UK domains such as .co.uk move by Nominet (IPS) tag, while international domains such as .com move with an authorisation code. Follow the route that matches your domain.

For .co.uk and other UK domains

A UK domain moves when your current registrar changes its IPS tag to ours, so there is no authorisation code. Place the transfer order on our website first, using the steps below. Then ask your current registrar to change the IPS tag on the domain to UNLIMITED, our tag, which our domain transfer page also gives. Once the tag changes, the domain moves under our management.

For .com, .net, .org and other international domains

International domains need an authorisation code, also called an EPP code or auth code. Ask your current registrar for it, because the registrar has to give the code to the domain’s registrant. Keep the code ready for the next step.

How do I transfer your domain to us?

With your domain unlocked and your details ready, you place the transfer order from the Domain Transfer page. It shows five stages across the top: Choose, Configure, Review, Checkout and Complete.

1. Open the domain transfer page. In the top bar of the client area, click Domains, then Transfer Domains to Us. The page is headed Domain Transfer.
2. Enter your domain name. Type the full domain name including the extension, for example yourdomain.co.uk, in the Domain Name field.
3. Enter your authorisation code. For an international domain, paste the EPP code from your current registrar into Authorization Code. UK domains do not use a code.
4. Add the domain to your order. Click Add to Cart. The order moves on to the Configure stage.
5. Complete the configuration. Fill in the details the Configure stage asks for, such as the registrant details for the domain.
6. Review and check out. Check the order at the Review stage, then complete checkout to submit the transfer request.

A UK transfer completes almost instantly once your current registrar has changed the tag. An international transfer completes within about five days. We email the domain’s admin contact, usually straight away, and the transfer goes ahead after that person follows the link in the email to approve it.

What happens after the transfer?
